Using Programmable Water Technologies to Reduce Waste

Sloan, a leading manufacturer of commercial plumbing systems, has developed a suite of Programmed Water Technologies (PWT) to address the issue of water abuse in commercial buildings. It is designed to minimize water abuse by controlling the length of showers and the number of flushes in a given time period through highly configurable components. PWT is ideal for new or existing projects, it controls every drop of water throughout a facility. In fact, facilities outfitted with PWT report a 35% annual reduction in water usage.

What you can do with Sloan PWT

PWT utilizes a variety of features to help reduce water waste. A key component of the PWT is the water management platform, which allows building managers to remotely monitor and control water usage in their facilities. The platform provides real-time data on water usage, enabling building managers to identify and address any wasteful behavior. This feature is particularly useful for larger buildings where it can be difficult to track and manage water usage.

Sloan’s PWT system is designed for a variety of institutional settings, including:

  • Prisons and Correctional Facilities – Sloan’s tamper-resistant designs keep facilities clean while keeping inmates safe;
  • Behavioral Health Facilities – Staff can preempt repairs, malfunctions, and vandalism, allowing more time to focus on patient needs.
  • Hospitals – Controlled water usage and system alerts help keep hospitals running smoothly to optimize patient care; and
  • Sport Facilities – Sloan’s smart systems are tough enough to withstand gameday traffic while conserving water.

The Sloan® 8603-ESM Flushometers offer the same performance benefits as standard concealed diaphragm flush valves, but with added durability to withstand tough environments. These models are designed to operate independently, without the need for a controller, making them a cost-efficient option for many facilities. The touch-button operation is vandal-proof and includes a non-hold-open feature to prevent excessive water consumption.

Each model is equipped with integrated firmware that offers five different programs to minimize water usage and misuse. These programs can provide two activations in five minutes, with lockout options of 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes, as well as a dorm option that allows for one flush per minute in common use restrooms. The programs can be changed in the field to meet the requirements of different applications.

The 8603-ESM series flushometers include a touch button for operation and come in both a standard (MCR-325) and ADA-compliant LED version (MCR-324L). There are several different options available, including battery-powered and hardwired models with battery backup. These models provide two flushes in five minutes and offer five different lockout time options. Additionally, there are other programs available that provide three flushes in 15 minutes or three flushes in five minutes.

The Sloan® PWT-ESM RESS - PWT to reduce water waste

The Sloan® PWT-ESM RESS is a retro fit option that can be fitted on an existing Sloan manual and hydraulic valves as well as Zurn valves. This allows facilities to implement PWT on pre-existing fixtures. The head itself is fully programmable and is available with several push button options to choose from.

These Sloan® PWT-ESM RESS Retrofit Head Assemblies also have several different options available, including battery-powered and hardwired models with battery backup. These models provide two flushes in five minutes and offer five different lockout time options of 15, 30, 45 and 60 or dorm setting.

In summary, the Sloan® 8603 series and Retrofit kits are essential for facilities looking get started with PWT to reduce water waste, prevent vandalism, and ensure the durability of their plumbing systems. With programmable features, lockout options, and easy retrofitting capabilities, these products offer convenient and cost-effective solutions for any type of project. Investing in these technologies not only benefits the facility's bottom line but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and responsible water management.

Sloan's efforts to reduce water abuse are especially important given the growing concern around water scarcity and the need to conserve this precious resource. The company's technologies not only help to reduce water usage and wastage but also promote greater sustainability and efficiency in commercial plumbing systems. By harnessing the power of technology to manage water usage, Sloan is helping to ensure a more sustainable future for all.
